Dr. Andrew Taylor Still (1828-1917)
|
Andrew Taylor Still, MD, DO first began to articulate the principles of osteopathy in 1874. Many years later, his practice was so busy that he decided to start the first school of Osteopathic Medicine in 1892. This resulted in a complete new form of medical training and practice called Osteopathy. Today there are over 35 osteopathic medical schools teaching the principles of A. T. Still.
Dr. Still's principles emphasized inherent forces within a patient that work to maintain health. When disease and symptoms were present, he taught his students to use their hands to allow the patient's inherent forces to regain health. Using Dr. Still's osteopathic principles, Dr. Comfort provides a traditional, yet powerful, form of medical care. |
